Europe’s largest food retailer Carrefour announced on Thursday the sale of its Romanian unit to Paval Holding for 823 million euros ($976 million).
The disposal is part of a wider portfolio review initiated in 2025.
“The group is pursuing its transformation and refocusing on its three core countries,” CEO Alexandre Bompard said in the press release.
Its largest markets by sales are France, Brazil and Spain.
The French supermarket group expects to complete the sale of Carrefour Romania in the second half of 2026.
